On the banks of the river Charente, just round the corner from the stunning village chateau, Les Bruyeres offers superior bed and breakfast accommodation in a lovingly restored barn retaining many original features.
The village of Verteuil sur Charente has a choice of three restaurants and two bars, bakers, butchers, tabac/ general store, pharmacy etc. all within easy walking distance.
Situated only 5 minutes south of the bustling market town of Ruffec, 5km from the main RN10 and within easy reach of airports at Angouleme, Poitiers, Limoges and La Rochelle it's an ideal location to explore Southwest France.Whether you're house hunting, enjoying a relaxing holiday or just spending one night on your way to somewhere else, you'll find it hard to better the location, facilities and standard of accommodation at Les Bruyeres at Verteuil sur Charente.
Entrance and courtyard
Passing through the large old farm gates you enter a high walled, private courtyard with balconies, and in summer, a stunning display of hanging baskets and flower arrangements. At the back of the courtyard is an open barn with secure, under cover parking for up to 6 cars.
Accommodation
We have 3 spacious, en suite, bedrooms plus a communal kitchen dining area in a self contained, converted barn, which retains many of the original features such as exposed beams, dressed Charantaise stone and even an original feeding trough. All rooms have central heating.
Bedrooms
All three bedrooms have an en suite with shower, hand washbasin and toilet. Each bedroom also has ample wardrobe and drawer storage, English to French electric adapters, a hairdrier and a radio/CD alarm. Rooms are serviced daily with a towel change if required, shampoo/shower gel and soap are also provided. A baby's cot and/or supplementary camp bed can be put in any of the three rooms if required.
Ground floor family room - Double bed, 2 wardrobes and sitting area with easy chairs, coffee table and settee which converts to a double bed for families.
1st floor double rooms x 2 - One room with double and single beds and one with double bed. Both rooms have dressing table, easy chairs and built in wardrobes.
Dining kitchen
One thing we always missed when staying in Bed & Breakfast accommodation was the lack of facilities for making hot drinks, preparing picnics or even cooking a meal. With this in mind we have incorporated a fully fitted kitchen for the exclusive use of our guests. In the kitchen you'll find : Four ring electric hob and oven Microwave oven, fridge Kettle, coffee percolator,Slow cooker, toaster, steamer Full set of pots, pans, casseroles and utensils Crockery, glasses and cutlery Dining table seating up to 8 people Please help yourself to free tea and coffee whenever you wish
In this area you'll also find WiFi internet access, English TV with all the FreeView channels, a wide selection of books, board games and videos and information on all local attractions.
French doors lead from the kitchen to an East facing sun terrace overlooking the beautiful garden with its' gravelled walkway. In summer you can take your breakfast outside in the morning sun.
We have a separate laundry with washing, drying and ironing facilities should you need them.

| "Porte Bleu Cafe" - In the main square (250 m). Charming bistro bar serving Mediterranean and French cuisine, bar snacks and drinks.
"La Paloma" - About 10 minutes walk in a countryside setting. Run by an English family and offering Mediterranean and French cuisine.
"Dixieland Cafe" - In the main square (250 m). Bar with beer garden under the chateaux walls, serves bar food (burgers, omelettes, salads etc.) throughout the day and evenings.
"Hotel Charentaise" - 5 minutes drive serving a wide choice of French and Irish cuisine.
There is also a good choice of restaurants and bars in the nearby towns of Ruffec, Nanteuil and Mansle.

| Located about 25 minutes drive from Angouleme/Cognac airport, 45 minutes from Poitiers airport, 1 hr 15minutes from Limoges and only 5 minutes from the main RN10 which give easy access to explore -
Take time walking around our beautiful village with its' 15th century chateaux, church with "mise en tombeau" and the beatiful river Charente.
The surrounding countryside is ideal for bird watching, walking, fishing, horse riding, painting etc. You can also hire canoes, bicycles and quad bikes.

Limoges - 1hr - famous for its porcelain manufacture and cobbled streets
The Atlantic coast - 1hr 30 mins - visit the fishing ports of La Rochelle, Rochefort, Royan with their superb, sandy beaches fabulous aquarium and trips to Fort Boyard
